Where Does Your Time Really Go?
Why You Need to Audit Your Time Like a Budget
“Time is money,” they say.
But unlike money, everyone gets the exact same amount: 24 hours a day.
Today’s exercise is simple and eye-opening:
Take a step back and look at how you actually spend your time each week. No apps, no trackers, just your memory.
Here’s how to do it:
Think through a typical week, from Monday 12:00 a.m. to Sunday 11:59 p.m.
Note your main activities and estimate how much time you spend on each.
No need for precision. Just broad categories like: Sleep, Work, Personal Project, Exercise, Housework, Family, Friends.
Tally up the hours per week for each. You might get something like:
Sleep: 49 hours
Work: 42 hours
Exercise: 4 hours
Personal Project: 7 hours
Family: 6 hours
Friends: 2 hours
Now ask yourself:
Are you spending enough time on what truly matters to you?
Take a moment to reflect.
Which activities deserve more of your time?
Which ones need less?
Be brutally honest. You only get 24 hours each day. No more, no less.
You won’t change everything overnight, but this small audit can help you start shifting priorities, one hour at a time.
